NORTHEAST ENDS REGULAR SEASON WEDNESDAY NIGHT IN CEDAR RAPIDS WITH POSTSEASON PLAY UP NEXT

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Northeast Community College volleyball team hit the road Wednesday for a matchup with No. 2 Kirkwood Community College in the final contest of the regular season. The Hawks fell in the showdown by a final score of 3-0.

Northeast (14-17, 9-3 ICCAC) clinched the opportunity to host a home playoff game after defeating Hawkeye Community College last Thursday in Norfolk and all that was left to be decided against the nationally-ranked Eagles was postseason seeding. Sophomore Katie Borg (Wakefield, Neb.) led the way with 10 digs and one ace serve in the battle as the Hawks have officially earned the No. 4 seed in the Region 11-A Tournament and will host Southeastern Community College in the semifinals of the tournament at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk.

Head Volleyball Coach Amanda Schultze on the match with No. 2 Kirkwood:

"Kirkwood is a very strong team, and they have great players in every position on the court," Schultze said. "We struggled to put balls away and to adjust, but I felt we played pretty good defense in the back row tonight."

Schultze on hosting the semifinals of the Region 11-A Tournament Saturday in Norfolk:

"We are excited to play on our home court one last time and we hope to encourage our community to come out and cheer us on to victory!" Schultze said.
