HISTORIC CLASS OF HAWKS SOPHOMORES HONORED SATURDAY IN VICTORY OVER TROJANS

NORFOLK, Neb. – The No. 3 Northeast Community College men's soccer team held their Sophomore Day Saturday at Norfolk Veterans Memorial Field in Norfolk in a matchup against North Iowa Area Community College. The Hawks secured a shutout in the contest by a final score of 3-0.

Northeast (13-2-1, 6-1-1 ICCAC) had three different players score in the match as Len Valkema (Leewarden, Netherlands), Felix Bomber (Regensburg, Germany) and Marius Elmose (Viby, Denmark) recorded a goal in the showdown for the Hawks. After the game, Northeast honored their 12 sophomores, including six who brought the Hawks their first NJCAA national championship in school history last season. Those student-athletes included Valkema, Elmose, Ludovico Vicini (Modena, Italy), Tobias Gerber (Weiden, Germany), Hugo Munter (Roskilde, Denmark) and Cameron Wright (Omaha, Neb.).

Entering the final game date of the regular season Wednesday, Northeast can clinch at least a first-round bye in the playoffs with a victory against Central Community College and could secure the Region 11 regular-season title with a loss or tie by Southeastern Community College against North Iowa Area Community College on Wednesday in Mason City, Iowa.
