ARENAS RECORDS 61 DIGS THROUGHOUT THE WEEKEND AS NORTHEAST GOES 2-2

COLUMBUS, Neb. – The Northeast Community College volleyball team made the trip to Columbus, Nebraska Friday and Saturday for four different matchups this weekend. The Hawks downed Highland Community College 3-1, fell to Central Community College 3-2, topped Neosho County Community College 3-0 and were defeated by Allen County Community College 3-1.

Northeast (18-12, 4-2 ICCAC) both won and lost a match during both days of the Central Community College Tournament. Alex Arenas (Wakefield, Neb.) recorded 61 digs throughout the tournament while Shaylyn Safranek (Merna, Neb.) tallied 132 assists and Mya Hedstrom (O'Neill, Neb.) had 47 kills during the four showdowns. The Hawks' sweep against Neosho County was their 12th sweep of the season.

Head Volleyball Coach Amanda Schultze on the weekend as a whole:

"We saw some really good things," Schultze said. "I felt like the girls played really well together and got after it every time they got on the court."

Schultze on hitting the road twice this week:

"They're excited to play this week and we are learning that we really need to make sure we're focused when we step foot out there and are ready to go," Schultze said.
