SAFRANEK FILLS UP STAT SHEET IN NORTHEAST SWEEP OF SOUTHEAST

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Northeast Community College volleyball team traveled Friday night to Lincoln, Nebraska for an intrastate showdown with Southeast Community College. The Hawks completed their fifth sweep of the season by downing the Bobcats by a final score of 3-0.

Northeast (8-3, 0-1 ICCAC) made quick work of Southeast as they took both sets one and set two 25-14 before finishing the match in set three 25-17. Shaylyn Safranek (Merna, Neb.) was an impact player for the Hawks as she tallied seven kills, nine digs and 15 assists on the same week that she was named ICCAC Player of the Week. Freshman Teya Boyer (Plainview, Neb.) stepped up in a big way as well for Northeast as her 10 assists helped propel the Hawks to a resounding victory.

Head Volleyball Coach Amanda Schultze on the sweep:

"It was fun to be able to get a good win against Southeast and have a great fan base there," Schultze said.

Schultze on how her team will use a few days off before a home match on Wednesday:

"We will use this weekend off to rest up, recover and prepare for a couple of long weeks ahead of us," Schultze said.

UP NEXT:

The Hawks will be back in their home gym for a conference matchup with Southwestern Community College at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk.
