NORTHEAST VOLLEYBALL SHOWS PROMISING SIGNS IN FIRST GAMES OF THE SEASON

MCCOOK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College volleyball team hit the road Friday to open the season with a pair of games at the McCook Tournament in McCook, Nebraska. The Hawks fell to McCook Community College in three sets and dropped the later game with Laramie County Community College in three sets.

Although the scoreboard showed two sweeps, there were plenty of positive signs for the Hawks. The final scores of the sets in the McCook game were 25-20, 25-20 and 26-24 while the final scores of the sets in the Laramie County game were 25-20, 25-22 and 25-22.

Karley Heimes (Wynot, Neb.) had a big night as she totaled 17 kills in Game 1 and 18 kills in Game 2.

HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:

Head volleyball coach Amanda Schultze on what her main takeaways from the games were:

"We are right there," Schultze said. "We played well. Saw some good things and found some things we need to work on. Overall, I'm proud of how these girls played today."

What Schultze wants to see from her team in preparation for their home opener next week:

"We need to be stopped on defesne and disciplined," Schultze said. "We also need to work on hitting shots and having our setter and middles connecting."

UP NEXT:

Northeast will host their first matchup of the season on their home court as they will battle with Barton Community College at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk.
