South Mountain tops Northeast volleyball in consolation round

CHARLESTON, W.V. – One too many errors proved to be the difference for the Northeast Community College women's volleyball team on Friday.

South Mountain Community College accounted for 47 kills as a team, defeating the Hawks in three sets (15-25, 19-25 and 17-25) in a consolation match in the NJCAA DII National Tournament at the Charleston Civic Center in Charleston, W.V.

"Today was a rough day for us in the back row," head coach Amanda Schultze said. "We struggled to get in system and did not pass very well in serve-receive. South Mountain did a very nice job at staying in system and playing defense. Now we need to get re-focused and get a win tomorrow."

Kalli Brester (Howells, Neb.) led the Hawks in kills with eight, while pitching in 13 digs. Delaney Belt (Shelby, Neb.) added 13 digs and Savannah Nelson (Wakefield, Neb.) had 23 assists in the loss.

The Hawks (20-15) will play for seventh-place, taking on Lincoln Land Community College at 11 a.m. (ET) in Charleston.
