NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College women's soccer team hosted their home opener Wednesday night at Norfolk Veterans Memorial Field in Norfolk against NJCAA DI No. 5 Iowa Western Community College. The Hawks and the Reivers played to a 0-0 draw in the showdown after 90 minutes of play.
Northeast (1-6-1) was battling their seventh ranked opponent in eight games this season, this time in the form of an Iowa Western squad who won the NJCAA DI national title last season. Goalkeeper Sarah Huckels (Essen, Germany) was excellent for the Hawks as she recorded 13 saves in the contest as Northeast was able to secure their strongest result of the year thus far before beginning conference play on Saturday at home.
HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:
Head Women's Soccer Coach Chad Miller on the night against the Reivers:
"I felt like our girls simplified the game against Iowa Western more than in previous games," Miller said. "We were so much better at seeing the field and getting ourselves into position to do so."
Miller on what he is looking for from his team as conference play begins on Saturday:
"I hope the feeling we felt after the game is enough to carry us into conference play," Miller said. "Iowa Western is a very good team and very well coached, so I hope we can take that result and truly see what we are capable of doing."
UP NEXT:
The Hawks will take on No. 8 Iowa Central Community College at 1 p.m. Saturday at Norfolk Veterans Memorial Field in Norfolk.
