NO. 16 HAWKS FALL IN DEFENSIVE BATTLE AGAINST NO. 10 BOBCATS

WESTFIELD, Ind. – The No. 16 Northeast Community College women's soccer team traveled Friday to Westfield, Indiana to compete at the Midwest NJCAA Showcase against No. 10 Jones College. The Hawks fell in the defensive battle by a final score of 1-0.

Northeast (0-1) was able to get three shots off during each of the two halves of the ranked showdown but a goal from the opposing Bobcats in the seventh minute proved too much to overcome. Jaisa Petty (Norfolk, Neb.), Maria Gomez-Herrara (Barranquilla, Colombia), Alia Gordon (Cibolo, Texas) and Madelynn Curry (Hugo, Minn.) all tallied 90 minutes in the contest as the Hawks held strong on the defensive side of the ball.

It will be a quick turnaround for Northeast as they will complete the showcase with a matchup against No. 17 Rock Valley College beginning at 12 p.m. Sunday in Westfield, Indiana.

Head Women's Soccer Coach Chad Miller on his squad after their first contest of the season:

"The loss doesn't feel good, but I am happy with the effort of the team," Miller said. "Our girls showed that we gave quality depth, and I am very proud of them for that. We have to find ways to score. We created some good opportunities, and maybe a step here or a step there would have made a difference, but we have to find that link to get us on the board."

The Hawks will continue their road trip with another ranked matchup against No. 17 Rock Valley College at 12 p.m. Sunday in Westfield, Indiana.
