NORFOLK, Neb. – The No. 5 Northeast Community College women's soccer team took the field Tuesday in the Region 11 Tournament Semifinals against Iowa Lakes Community College at Norfolk Veterans Memorial Field in Norfolk. The Hawks secured a 2-1 victory in the first period of overtime to send Northeast to the Region 11 Tournament Championship on Sunday.

Northeast (17-1-1) fell behind 1-0 early and carried that deficit into the halftime break as the Lakers put the pressure on early. Madison Province (Kearney, Neb.) tapped in a gorgeous free kick from Madisen Clegg (Saint George, Utah) to even the contest just one minute into the second period. The Hawks dominated possession for much of the second half and had the ball on their half of the field but were unable to find the back of the net again as the showdown shifted into overtime.

First Team All-American in 2022 and Northeast Athletics 2022-23 Female Athlete of the Year Aidyn Woodall (Castle Rock, Colo.) put in another beautiful pass from Clegg as Northeast punched their ticket to the championship match at 3 p.m. Saturday against No. 11 Iowa Central Community College.

    STAT SHEET:

Goals: Madison Province (Kearney, Neb.), Aidyn Woodall (Castle Rock, Colo.)

Assists: Madisen Clegg (Saint George, Utah) (2)

    HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:

Head Women's Soccer Coach Chad Miller on the resiliency that his team showed to come from behind to win the match:

"I told the girls after the game that was all heart," Miller said. "That's what kept them in the game. You can change your mentality, but I thought they played with a ton of heart in the second half to get that goal back."

Miller on Aidyn Woodall being the one to put Northeast on top today:

"It's the perfect person to touch that in," Miller said. "She has been such an incredible player for us the last two years. She is playing a different role this year in being more of a creator. For her to get that final touch to finish that game is exactly what she deserves."

Miller on the upcoming rematch with No. 11 Iowa Central after the two battled back on October 18:

"It's going to be a great game again," Miller said. "It's nice that we have these competitive games, so I'm excited for that. We are just going to have to come ready to play from the very first minute to the end."

    UP NEXT:

The Hawks will play in the Region 11 Tournament Championship at 3 p.m. Saturday at Norfolk Veterans Memorial Field in Norfolk against No. 11 Iowa Central Community College.
