Romeni Gurmendi (Boulder, Colo.) found the back of the net in the 49th-minute, while Sara Pedroza recorded a goal in the 54th-minute off an assist from Erica Derby (Keenesburg, Colo.) The Hawks outshot the RedTails, 15-8. Carolin Stahlmann (Ahrensburg, Germany) had three saves.
"We started this match off with a heavy attack and were able to get a goal," head coach Chad Miller said. "At halftime, we talked about playing a whole half with the same intensity. We knew Hawkeye would come out the second half and play hard, so we wanted to match that. I was extremely happy with how we answered our halftime talk."
The Hawks host North Iowa Area Community College at 1 p.m. tomorrow at Veterans Memorial Field in Norfolk.
