JONES, AKOI AND LOPEZ NAMED ALL-REGION FOR NORTHEAST WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

AMES, Iowa – Northeast Community College women's basketball student-athletes Aaliyah Jones (Rapid City, S.D.), Aweng Akoi (Sioux Falls, S.D.) and Jana Lopez (Girona, Spain) were named to the various women's basketball all-region teams, it was announced by the ICCAC. Jones was named First Team All-Region, Akoi was named Second Team All-Region and Lopez was named Third Team All-Region.

Aaliyah Jones put a bow on an incredible career with the Hawks throughout her sophomore season as she scored 19.5 points per game, which was good enough for second in the entire ICCAC. She was also second in the conference in her shooting percentage from the free-throw line, shooting 82.2% from the charity stripe. Jones scored 585 points this year, bringing her total at Northeast to 1,183, which is fourth puts her fourth all-time.

Aweng Akoi made an instant impact on the Hawks during her freshman campaign as she shot 55.3% from the field, which was third best in the ICCAC. She also was active on defense end for Northeast as her 78 blocks throughout the season put her second in the conference while she trailed closely trailed Jones in free-throw percentage, shooting 81.8%.

Fellow freshman Jana Lopez came on late for the Hawks as a three against Des Moines Area Community College was incredibly clutch and propelled Northeast over the Bears late in the season. Lopez started all 30 games that she played in and scored 175 points throughout the year.

The Hawks finished with a record of 19-11 and made it to the Region 11-B Championship Game in 2025-26.
