NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College women's basketball team played host to Des Moines Area Community College Wednesday night at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk. The Hawks battled back late to triumph by a final score of 63-59.
Northeast (17-9, 12-8 ICCAC) was led in scoring throughout the matchup by Aaliyah Jones (Rapid City, S.D.) as the sophomore's 30 points in the showdown were enough to move here into sole possession of fifth place in all-time scoring for the Hawks. Northeast trailed by two with just 16 seconds remaining in the contest, but Jana Lopez (Girona, Spain) drilled a corner three off an assist from Paige Hawkins (Baton Rouge, La.) to secure the victory for the Hawks.
Saturday will mark the final home game of the season for Northeast as sophomores Alexis Kuchar (Madison, Neb.), Aaliyah Jones (Rapid City, S.D.), Hannah Schieffer (Crofton, Neb.) and Vilique Fallis (Rapid City, S.D.) will be honored as part of Sophomore Day.

Head Women's Basketball Coach Matt Svehla on what it took to capture the victory over DMACC:
"I thought we had a real gritty effort tonight and made some key plays down the stretch," Svehla said. "Obviously, Aaliyah had a big night for us and Jana hit a big three late. Nice to get back in the win column and hopefully we can build on this down the stretch."
