AKOI AND JONES CARRY HAWKS PAST RAIDERS AT HOME

NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College women's basketball team was back home Wednesday night at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk. The Hawks completed the season sweep of the Raiders in the matchup by a final score of 72-63.

Northeast (16-8, 11-7 ICCAC) spread it around offensively as Aweng Akoi (Sioux Falls, S.D.), Ayana Owens (Lincoln, Neb.), Aaliyah Jones (Rapid City, S.D.) and Lexi Wiebelhaus (Crofton, Neb.) were all in double figures on the night as Akoi's 18 points were a career high. Jones recorded a triple-double in the contest as she tallied 13 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists as the Hawks will now look ahead to a duel with No. 7 Kirkwood Community College next at 1 p.m. Saturday in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Head Women's Basketball Coach Matt Svehla on taking the victory over the Raiders:

"We got off to a really slow start," Svehla said. "We were sluggish and flat. We got going a bit in the second quarter and then in the third quarter we were a little flat again. We played well in the fourth quarter, and our free-throw shooting was big for us tonight as we went 13-for-13 in the fourth from the free-throw line. Putting up 30 in the fourth was great and we'll move forward for a tough one coming up Saturday against Kirkwood."

The Hawks will hit the road and will battle No. 7 Kirkwood Community College at 1 p.m. Saturday in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
