THREE SCORE IN DOUBLE FIGURES FOR NORTHEAST IN VICTORY TUESDAY OVER NDSCS

NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College women's basketball team returned home Tuesday night for a contest against NJCAA DI North Dakota State College of Science at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk. The Hawks took the matchup by a final score of 63-52 for their third-straight victory.

Northeast (3-1) fell behind by as many as 11 points early in the second quarter of the showdown by rallied to take the lead in the second half. Aaliyah Jones (Rapid City, S.D.), Ayana Owens (Lincoln, Neb.) and Lexi Wiebelhaus (Crofton, Neb.) all scored in double figures in the ballgame as the Hawks held the visiting Wildcats to 0-for-14 from the three-point line.

HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:

Head Women's Basketball Coach Matt Svehla on the comeback victory against a solid squad Tuesday night:

"We did a good job of staying in it, even in that first quarter," Svehla said. "As poorly as I thought that we played, we were only down seven. We didn't let them put a big number up and we hit some shots towards the end of the second quarter to give us momentum. I liked our fight that we showed. In the second half, we made some free throws and got some stops."

Svehla on the upcoming week of practice as conference play looms:

"We'll watch some tape and clean up some things, but we're excited to get ready for the next set of games," Svehla said.

The Hawks will be back in action at 5:30 p.m. Monday against Morningside University JV at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk.
