HUGE FOURTH QUARTER PROPELS NORTHEAST OVER NORTH PLATTE

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. – The Northeast Community College women's basketball team hit the road Saturday for a matchup with North Platte Community College. The Hawks triumphed in the contest by a final score of 51-44 behind a fantastic fourth quarter.

Northeast (4-1) entered the fourth quarter trailing the Knights 35-32 but were able to outscore North Platte 19-9 in the final 10 minutes to secure the victory on the road. Mia Wiederin (Norfolk, Neb.) led the Hawks in scoring with 17 points while Aaliyah Jones (Rapid City, Neb.) trailed closely behind with 16 points of her own. Northeast has now gotten through the first five showdowns of the season with a record of 4-1 and will set their sights on another battle with another Nebraskan foe in Central Community College on Tuesday night.

HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:

Head Women's Basketball Coach Matt Svehla on the victory over a fellow Nebraskan squad:

"We really struggled to find any flow offensively," Svehla said. "We were really flat early and found ourselves in a hole down 11-2 to start the ballgame, but it was good to see us have it tied at half and we played pretty well in the fourth quarter. We hit a couple of big shots when we needed to and we got some stops down the stretch."

Svehla on looking ahead to Central on Tuesday:

"Still plenty to work on and hopefully we can clean some things up as we head back out on the road to Central on Tuesday," Svehla said.
