RICHARDS CONTINUES STELLAR SEASON WITH 33 POINTS IN HAWKS LOSS TO NO. 18 BEARS

BOONE, Iowa – The Northeast Community College women's basketball team hit the road Monday night for a conference matchup with No. 18 Des Moines Area Community College in Boone, Iowa. The Bears took the showdown by a final score of 86-66.

Northeast (8-10, 5-5 ICCAC) led 21-20 after a layup from Clara Garrote (Salamanca, Spain) gave the Hawks an advantage at the end of the first quarter. The Bears lost by just 76-74 to No. 2 Iowa Western Community College on Saturday at home and were given all they could handle from Northeast for the first 15 minutes Monday night. Allison Richards (Pine Ridge, S.D.) was dominant yet again as her 33 points were half of the team total for the Hawks.

HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:

Head Women's Basketball Coach Matt Svehla on the night as a whole:

"We got off to a pretty decent start but had some lapses defensively and in transition during the last five minutes of the first half," Svehla said. "We were up six and then down 11 at the half. The start to our second half was not great and DMACC extended their lead to a point where it made it real difficult to get back in it."

Svehla on bouncing back from this contest heading into Wednesday:

"We have a tough week with three road games," Svehla said. "Our next is at Iowa Lakes on Wednesday, so we will need to regroup quickly and put this one behind us."

The Hawks travel again and will battle Iowa Lakes Community College for the second time this season at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in Estherville, Iowa.
