HAWKS SOPHOMORES SENT OUT WITH ONE FINAL REGULAR SEASON WIN

NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College women's basketball team welcomed North Iowa Area Community College to the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk Saturday. The Hawks ended the regular season on a high with a victory by a final score of 67-56 over the Trojans.

The Hawks (16-11, 8-8 ICCAC) honored sophomores Alexis Bliven (Holdrege, Neb.), Marta Pons (Sevilla, Spain) and Autumn Dickmander (Brule, Neb.) at the conclusion of the contest as the matchup with NIACC marked their final regular season game on the campus of Northeast.

Hot shooting for the Hawks was the name of the game as Northeast shot 38.5-percent from three compared to just the 9.1-percent from the Trojans. The Hawks also shot 44.7-percent from the field while NIACC shot just 24.6-percent.

The Hawks have a bye during the final week of the regular season and will now await their playoff destination.

HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:

Head women's basketball coach Matt Svehla on his group coming together to finish the regular season strong:

"We did not have the best first quarter, but I liked our fight to get the game in our favor from the second quarter on," Svehla said.

Svehla on sending the sophomores out the right way:

"It was a good win and a nice win for our sophomores playing at home for the final time," Svhela said. "Marta, Alexis and Autumn all gave important contributions to help us get the W."

UP NEXT:

The Hawks will now battle in the Region XI Division II Women's Basketball Tournament beginning on Wednesday, March 8 against an undetermined opponent.
