FORT DODGE, Iowa – The Northeast Community College women's basketball team came away with a big win on Friday, toppling Iowa Central Community College 85-46, but the Hawks were unable to defeat North Iowa Area Community College, falling 76-66 on Saturday at the Great Western Shootout in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
Beth Matas (Girona, Spain) paced the Hawks with 29 points. Emina Hadzihusejnovic (Mostar, Bosnia) added 12 points and nine rebounds, while Kyla Moore (Norfolk, Neb.) had 11 points and four assists. Macey Kulhanek (Howells, Neb.) tallied 11 points and Julia Carbonell (Barcelona, Spain) netted 10 points and eight boards.
The Hawks (8-2) shot a blistering 58 percent from the field and 42 percent from beyond the arc.
On Saturday, the Hawks came close from knocking-off NJCAA DII power and No. 2-ranked NIACC, despite shooting 39 percent from the field.
Hadzihusejnovic recorded 21 points and seven rebounds. Breanna Stouffer (David City, Neb.) had 10 points, while Moore and Matas had nine points each in the loss.
The Hawks return home for a 5 p.m. tip-off tomorrow against Morningside College JV at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk.
