RABURN AND AHLEMEYER LIFT HAWKS IN HOME OPENER WEDNESDAY IN NORFOLK
NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College softball team held their home opener Wednesday afternoon at Ta-Ha-Zouka Park in Norfolk against Highland Community College. The Hawks took Game 1 by a final score of 10-0 in five innings and also captured Game 2, 7-3.
NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College softball team held their home opener Wednesday afternoon at Ta-Ha-Zouka Park in Norfolk against Highland Community College. The Hawks took Game 1 by a final score of 10-0 in five innings and also captured Game 2, 7-3.
Northeast (3-13) were led in the first contest of the day by Isabel Raburn (Holdrege, Neb.) as the sophomore tossed five innings in the circle and recorded 10 strikeouts. Ava Wolters (Omaha, Neb.) added three RBIs and Audrey Smith (New Brighton, Minn.) tallied two of her own as the Hawks were able to complete the victory in just five innings.
In Game 2, Bailee Ahlemeyer (Cambridge, Neb.) was the story for Northeast as the sophomore blasted two home runs in her first two appearances at the plate in the ballgame. Raburn was back in the circle in relief and picked up four more strikeouts, bringing her total to 14 on the day.

Head Softball Coach Erin Sharpe on the sweep Wednesday:
"Being back at home was great," Sharpe said. "It was a beautiful day. Our team is really getting along, and they keep talking about family. It's really starting to show on the field."
Sharpe on the performance of Isabel Raburn:
"Isabel did amazing," Sharpe said. "She just needs to remember to stay loose. Her ball was definitely moving through the zone today."
Sharpe on what she is looking forward to with a trip to Florida next:
"Excited for a new environment and to be out in the sun," Sharpe said. "Good vibes all around both from today and looking ahead to next week."
UP NEXT:
The Hawks will head to Winter Haven, Florida to compete in eight contests next week beginning with a doubleheader on Monday.
