NORTHEAST SOFTBALL BEGINS SEASON WITH FOUR CONTESTS IN KANSAS

HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The Northeast Community College softball team traveled to Hutchinson, Kansas on Thursday and Friday for a four-game series against Hutchinson Community College. The Hawks fell in the contests on Thursday by final scores of 8-0 and 9-0 before dropping Game 3, 5-4 in extra innings and Game 4, 8-0.

Northeast (0-4) had their strongest performance of the series in the first showdown Friday as the Hawks got ahead on the scoreboard 2-0 in the first inning and were powered by an impressive showing by Isabel Raburn (Holdrege, Neb.) as the sophomore recorded a double and two RBIs at the plate while tossing over seven innings in the circle and striking out four. Northeast and the Blue Dragons went into an extra frame where Hutchinson eventually took the matchup in the eighth inning.

The Hawks will spend the next week at home before traveling to for a doubleheader at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday in Gainesville, Texas against North Central Texas College and then will end their trip at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. Sunday in Tishomingo, Oklahoma against No. 1 Murray State College.

HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:

Head Softball Coach Erin Sharpe on the four games as a whole in Kansas:

"I really liked what I saw in the first game on Friday," Sharpe said. "If we can get our bats more consistent, we will be just fine. Isabel threw really well on Friday and so did Amy. Our bats started to get it going more on Sunday as well, but we still have some things to work on."

Sharpe on the week ahead before heading south to Texas:

"I know the beginning of our schedule is tough, but I love it that way," Sharpe said. "I'm excited for three days of outside practice before heading to Texas and Oklahoma."

The Hawks will travel for a doubleheader at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday in Gainesville, Texas against North Central Texas College.
