NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College men's soccer team has been selected as an at-large bid to the at the 2025 NJCAA DII Men's Soccer Championship next week in Wichita, Kansas and will have the opportunity to defend their 2024 national championship as the No. 5 seed.
Adam Potter has sent a team to the national tournament all four years that he has been the head coach of the men's soccer program at Northeast, and his 2025 team faced a grueling schedule that allowed them to be in a position to compete on the national stage.
"Having three top-10 wins, a top-five tie and a top-18 win were instrumental," Potter said. "This is the first time in our programs history that we've had three top-10 wins in the regular season. Us putting in all of that work back in Indianapolis earlier this year and back in all of these other places set us up to be in the position that we are in today."
The Hawks will compete in Pool D against No. 9 Madison College at 5:30 p.m. Monday and No. 4 CCBC Essex at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita, Kansas, and Potter is thrilled to see his team rewarded for their hard work.
"Overall, this has been the most adversity that we have faced since I have been here and there has been a lot that the guys have had to overcome," Potter said. "I'm so proud of the guys to put their head down, run through the line and put themselves in position to have an at-large bid. I just couldn't be more excited for the guys. I loved seeing their awesome reaction to getting in and how joyful and excited they were."
The prospect of defending their national title is on Northeast's mind, but Potter knows making the national tournament for the fourth-straight time is a testament to everyone who has supported and played for the Hawks over the last four years.
"Now it's safe to say that everyone knows Northeast," Potter said. "Everyone knows the brand. Everyone knows who we are. We have to keep plugging away to make it even more nationally known. This group has an opportunity to go down there and continue to make a name for themselves. They've already done tremendous work for this program and it's amazing that these guys have gotten over the hump to qualify for nationals, especially in a year where our region has been the toughest it's ever been."
