HAWKS MEN’S SOCCER CONTINUES EARLY SEASON SUCCESS IN CHICAGO

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Northeast Community College men’s soccer team was back in action Thursday, and the game looked eerily similar to how the early season has gone for the Hawks so far. Northeast put on a goal-scoring clinic as they prevailed for an 11-0 victory over College of Lake County to move to 3-0 on the season.

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Northeast Community College men's soccer team was back in action Thursday, and the game looked eerily similar to how the early season has gone for the Hawks so far. Northeast put on a goal-scoring clinic as they prevailed for an 11-0 victory over College of Lake County to move to 3-0 on the season.

Early goals and lightning delays seem to have been the story this season for the Hawks, and that story repeated itself Thursday night. Chad Le Roux (Alberton, South Africa), Alfie Pendlebury (Maidenhead, England) and Evan Ryan (Dublin, Ireland) all scored goals before the game reach its 14th minute. A lengthy lightning delay would ensue, the second that the Northeast men's team has dealt with in three games, but eventually the Hawks would return to the pitch and capture the victory.

Sergio Aspas (Valencia, Spain) suited up for his first game with the Hawks against the Lancers and was able to score four different times, which was just one goal shy of the school record for most goals in a game.

    STAT SHEET:

Goals: Chad Le Roux (Alberton, South Africa), Alfie Pendlebury (Maidenhead, England), Evan Ryan (Dublin, Ireland), Carlos Jimenez (Littleton, Colo.), Paul Einero (Cape Town, South Africa), Sergio Aspas (Valencia, Spain) (4), Tomas Espinoza (Santiago, Chile), Jordy Enamorado (Lexington, Neb.)

Assists: Teun van der Donk (Rotterdam, Netherlands), Ewen Guillermo (Noyal-Pontivy, France), Tom Hennah (Little Sandhurst, England), Jordy Enamorado (2), Paul Einero (Cape Town, South Africa), Marvin Kura (Gladbeck, Germany) (3)

    HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:

Assistant coach Jyson Breitbarth's overall thoughts on his team starting the season so strongly:

"It is important that we set the tone from the start," Breitbarth said. "So, to start strong like this paves the way for the season to come."

Breitbarth on making sure his team stays locked in after the hot start:

"We make sure our team stays focused by holding each other accountable and always striving for more," Breitbarth said. "Yes, we won our first three games, but the play can always be improved and that's what we emphasize to our men."

Breitbarth on Sergio Aspas scoring four goals in his first game wearing a Hawks uniform:

"We want every man to step foot on the pitch giving 100-percent effort," Breitbarth said. "Sergio gave 100-percent tonight."

    UP NEXT:

Northeast will remain in Chicago and will take on Elgin Community College at 2 p.m. Saturday in Chicago, Illinois.
