COLUMBUS, Neb. – The Northeast Community College men's soccer team began their battle with rival Central Community College last Thursday in Columbus, Nebraska, but it took until Monday afternoon until they could officially call themselves victorious. After a three-day delay, the Hawks downed the Raiders by a final score of 5-2 to move to 2-0 on the season.

The Hawks opened their season last Thursday with a bang and they were able to score two goals in the first four minutes. They would push another goal across that night before a lightning delay would ultimately push the game to be postponed until Monday afternoon.

The clock had 39:45 remaining with the Hawks leading 3-1 when the ball dropped to resume play. Northeast picked up right where they left off as Alfie Pendlebury (Maidenhead, England) scored in the 65th-minute and Ewen Guillermo (Noyal-Pontivy, France) scored in the 85th-minute as the Hawks cruised to victory.

    STAT SHEET GAME 1:

Assists: Luca Baltzer (Oberstenfeld, Germany), Teun van der Donk (Rotterdam, Netherlands), Alfie Pendlebury

Saves: Reagan Maliska (Glasgow, Scotland) 1, Jesus Baez (Madison, Neb.) 4

    HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:

Head men's soccer coach Adam Potter on his team battling through the adversity of resuming the same game multiple days later.

"It was a game that none of us will ever forget," Potter said. "I am proud of the boys for running through the line. We were exhausted with heavy legs from traveling 19 hours the day before and guys only getting four or five hours of sleep."

Potter on his team winning a huge rivalry game over Central:

"Highway 81 bleeds red!" Potter said.

Potter on what he wants the mentality of his team to be the next few days before heading to Chicago:

"As we turn our focus to Chicago, we will take these next few days to recover and be mentally and physically ready for battle on Thursday," Potter said. "We need to conquer one day at a time."

    UP NEXT:

The Hawks will load the bus and head to the bright lights of Chicago, Illinois for their next three games. The trip will begin at 7:45 p.m. Thursday at the University of Chicago Campus when Northeast battles against College of Lake County.
