Hawks blitz Blue Knights in ICCAC men’s soccer match

ROSEMOUNT, Minn. – Scoring goals wasn't an issue for the Northeast Community College men's soccer team on Thursday.

The Hawks (4-6, 4-6 ICCAC) blanked Dakota County Technical College, 11-0 in Rosemount, Minn.

At halftime, the Hawks led 6-0, thanks to goals by Julius Schwendt (Alpenrod, Germany) in the opening seconds of the game and Hugo Santos (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) in the 10^th-minute. Santos later found Conner Bickford (Arvada, Colo.) for a goal in the 15^th-minute, while Santos followed with two-straight goals late in the first half. Andrei Soares (Gravatai, Brazil) rounded out the Hawks' scoring with a goal in the 42^nd-minute.

Cael Wiederin (Norfolk, Neb.) found the back of the net in the 61^st-minute off an assist by Bickford and Mano Veldt (Bussum, Netherlands) tallied a goal two minutes later. Santos kept the momentum going for the Hawks with a goal in the 67^th-minute. The Blue Knights scored an own goal in the 71^st-minute, followed by a goal from Jeremy Dreher (Norfolk, Neb.) with two minutes to play in the match.

Jyson Breitbarth (Hilo, Hawaii) tallied four saves, while the Hawks outshot the Blue Knights 34-5.

"Our guys seem to be going on all cylinders right now," head coach Chad Miller said. "Hopefully, we can continue this play going into our final three games of the regular season."

The Hawks host Scott Community College for an 11 a.m. match on Sunday at Veterans Memorial Field in Norfolk.
