PLYMOUTH, Ind. – The No. 5 Northeast Community College men's golf team traveled to Swan Lake Resort in Plymouth, Indiana to compete at the 2026 NJCAA DII Men's Golf Championship. The Hawks finished in 10th as a team during the four-day event.
Northeast battled windy conditions all week as they were one of five teams representing the North Plains District on the national stage. Freshman D'Arcy Whyte (Moama, Australia) led the way for the Hawks, finishing tied for 31st as an individual after a strong performance in the fourth round where he shot two under par.
Sophomore Luke Bonser (Durham, England) was also strong as he ended his career at Northeast with rounds of 75, 74, 75 and 77. Emilio Lechuga Franco (Puebla, Mexico) and Will Turner (Mudgee, Australia) rounded out the lineup with finishes of T56 and T59 while Tommy Dredla (Scottsbluff, Neb.) and Cameron Lee (Edgerton, Wis.) subbed in for each other as individuals.
Throughout the season, the Hawks won The Battle for the Mississippi in Sherrard, Illinois last fall in a loaded tournament with some of the top teams in the nation, and Whyte claimed the individual victory in that event with a birdie on the last hole. Northeast was also the runner-up in the North Plains District to qualify for their third national tournament in the last four years.
All five starters for the Hawks were named All-Region by the ICCAC at the conclusion of the 2025-26 season as Whyte and Bonser were named First Team All-Region, Dredla was named Second Team All-Region and Lee and Lechuga Franco were named Honorable Mention All-Region. Whyte and Lechuga Franco also placed on the 2026 NJCAA Division II PING All-Region North Team.
Northeast's finish of 10th marks back-to-back seasons where the Hawks have finished in the top 10 at the national tournament after a seventh-place finish in 2025.

HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:
Head Men's Golf Coach Ty Heimes on the week at the national tournament:
"I'm not sure we played our best, but the guys competed with the stuff that they had," Heimes said. "Finishing in the top 10 two-straight years is a great accomplishment."
Heimes on what he will remember about his 2025-26 team:
"It was a fun group," Heimes said. "They worked really hard both on and off the golf course. We had a 3.6 GPA, which was impressive. They were fun to be around, and I really enjoyed working with them."
