NORTHEAST MEN’S GOLF FINISHES SECOND IN SEASON-OPENING TOURNAMENT

YANKTON, S.D. – The Northeast Community College men's golf team traveled to Yankton, South Dakota on Monday and Tuesday to compete in their first tournament of the year at the Mount Marty Invitational. The Hawks finished second in the two-day event while Jonathan Arvidsson (Stockholm, Sweden) finished tied for third as an individual.

Northeast brought four newcomers to compete in the competition as Arvidsson, D'Arcy Whyte (Moama, Australia), Cameron Lee (Edgerton, Wis.) and Mason Burke (Fort Atkinson, Wis.) all battled in their first tournament as Hawks. Tommy Dredla (Scottsbluff, Neb.) joined Arvidsson in the top five while Whyte came home in a tie for eighth place.

Head Men's Golf Coach Ty Heimes on the performance of his group during their first time out:

"Good tournament for Jonathan Arvidsson and D'Arcy Whyte," Heimes said. "Our group had fun. Sophomore Tommy Dredla played really well over the two days as well."

Heimes on what he is looking to focus on before his team's next tournament:

"We have two weeks, and we have to get some practice in," Heimes said. "We have to get some things cleaned up. Our next tournament will be against some tough teams in the region."
