AMES, Iowa – Northeast Community College head men's golf coach Ty Heimes has been named Region 11 Coach of the Year while Tyler Baumchen (Topeka, Kan.), Bryson Parker (Turpin, Okla.) and Luke Bonser (Durham, England) were all named First Team All-Region, it was announced by the ICCAC Tuesday.
The Hawks are currently ranked No. 9 in the NJCAA DII Men's Golf Rankings and will compete at the 2025 NJCAA DII Men's Golf Championship from May 20-23 at Swan Lake Resort in Plymouth, Indiana. Northeast won the Briar Cliff Spring Match Play in Sioux City, Iowa, the Region 11 Preview in Sioux City, Iowa and the Southwestern Premier in Panora, Iowa this spring. They also finished second at the North Central District Tournament in Sioux City, Iowa to automatically qualify for the national tournament. Heimes was voted Region 11 Coach of the Year by fellow coaches in the conference in just his second full-time season with the Hawks.
Baumchen was named First Team All-Region after a spring where he finished fourth in a loaded filed at the Eagles Spring Invite in La Salle, Illinois, fourth at the Southwestern Premier and placed tied for third at the North Central District Tournament. He also buried a 40-foot putt on the last hole to secure the team victory for the Hawks at the Region 11 Preview. Baumchen was named Honorable Mention All-Region in 2024 after his freshman campaign and now has earned All-Region honors after both of his seasons at Northeast.
Parker was named First Team All-Region after dominating the North Central District Tournament, which is the event that decides who qualifies for the national tournament from NJCAA Region 9, Region 11 and Region 13. The freshman not only won the tournament against a loaded field, but he also cleared everyone by nine strokes as he held a three-shot lead entering the third round of the three-day event and then scored a tournament-best score of 66 on the final day of the event.
Bonser has been the No. 1 golfer at Northeast much of the season after winning his first-ever collegiate event with the Hawks back on August 27 at the Mount Marty Invitational in Yankton, South Dakota. Bonser finished tied for second at the Maverick Desert Classic in Goodyear, Arizona and finished in sole possession of sixth at the North Central District Tournament. Entering the national tournament next week, Bonser is ranked as the No. 33 men's golfer in the NJCAA DII Men's Golf Rankings.
