SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The No. 10 Northeast Community College men's golf team traveled to Whispering Creek Golf Club in Sioux City, Iowa Monday to compete in the Region 11 Preview against the best teams in their district. The Hawks took the victory in the 18-hole event by one stroke for their second-consecutive win in tournament play.
Northeast battled eight other teams from the North Central District in what was a look-ahead event to the North Central District Tournament on May 4-6 at the same course. The Hawks battled through treacherous conditions as there were cold temperatures, wind and hail throughout the afternoon. Northeast traded the lead with No. 6 Kirkwood Community College all day until Tyler Baumchen (Topeka, Kan.) buried a 40-foot putt on the last hole to secure the team victory for the Hawks.
After winning the Briar Cliff Match Play back on March 27-28 in Sioux City, Iowa, Northeast has now won two-straight events and is nationally ranked in the top 10 with just two tournaments left in the regular season. The Hawks will get back after it on Thursday and Friday of this week at the Eagles Spring Invite in La Salle, Illinois against another loaded field.

HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:
Head Men's Golf Coach Ty Heimes on Tyler Baumchen's massive putt to win the tournament:
"Great putt by him," Heimes said. "He played pretty well all day. Big putt for him and a good confidence boost for him. Good to see him make that."
Heimes on his group fighting through the conditions to take down some of the nation's top teams:
"They hung in there all day," Heimes said. "We knew it would be a tough day with the conditions, but I felt like they got off to a good start. We had some rain in the middle part of the round that hurt us a bit, but they hung in there all day and played well."
Heimes on carrying the momentum his team has after back-to-back victories into their next tournament:
"Quick turnaround," Heimes said. "We play Thursday and Friday in a really good JUCO field. Excited about that one and we will get to see some teams that we haven't seen before. It will be good to see where we stack up against them. We are playing well right now and I'm glad that we have another tournament this week to keep things rolling."
UP NEXT:
The Hawks will get back after it again this week at the Eagles Spring Invite on Thursday and Friday at Senica's Oak Ridge Golf Club in La Salle, Illinois.
