GARRETT SCORES 55 AND BREAKS SCHOOL RECORD FOR POINTS IN A GAME ON SOPHOMORE NIGHT

NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College men's basketball team played in front of their home fans for the final time this season against Ellsworth Community College Wednesday night at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk. The Hawks were victorious on Sophomore Night by a final score of 109-99.

Northeast (8-17, 5-13 ICCAC) needed a win and a loss by Southwestern Community College against Iowa Western Community College Wednesday to qualify for the Region 11 Tournament and they were able to have just that as they will now take on Des Moines Area Community College at 3 p.m. Saturday in Boone, Iowa. Vincent Garrett (Lincon, Neb.) scored 55 points in the showdown which set a school record for points in a game. Garrett also surpassed 1,000 points in the matchup as he now has 1,007 career points with the Hawks.

Sophomores Chase Williams (Omaha, Neb.), Garrett, Luke Brown (Hobart, Australia), Jaxon Clausen (Wausa, Neb.), Bryson Faines (Lincoln, Neb.) and Collin Nick (Lincoln, Neb.) were all celebrated as part of Sophomore Night before the ballgame.

Head Men's Basketball Coach Josh Clark on securing a victory on Sophomore Night:

"I can't tell you how much these sophomores are a blessing and a pleasure to have every single day," Clark said. "I look forward to practice and having a chance to compete with them. They are a special group and the first group to establish who we are. The give everything they have."

Clark on Garrett's massive performance:

"Vincent is a special player," Clark said. "We have been trying to tell him that he needs to take over. He can't let the game happen. Tonight, it was easy for him. We rode him and he took over."

Clark on starting the postseason on Saturday:

"In the last few weeks, every coach that I have talked to has said that they don't want to see us in the tournament," Clark said. "We're dangerous. Tonight, we put together 40 minutes. We have had this circled on our schedule since probably mid-January. Here we go. We are tough, we are a team that's hot right now and we are a team that is starting to put it together. We are going to put together a gameplan for DMACC tomorrow and we are going to give them everything that they can have."
