FAINES HAS 14 POINTS AND 14 REBOUNDS FOR HAWKS IN VICTORY OVER NO. 20 TROJANS

MASON CITY, Iowa – The Northeast Community College men's basketball team hit the road Saturday for an ICCAC matchup with No. 20 North Iowa Area Community College. The Hawks grabbed a victory by a final score of 74-69 in the conference showdown.

Northeast (4-14, 1-10 ICCAC) trailed 35-31 at the halftime break but continued to cut into the nationally-ranked Trojans' lead on the scoreboard throughout the second half before ultimately pulling ahead for good late in the contest. Vincent Garrett (Lincoln, Neb.) led the Hawks in scoring on the afternoon as the sophomore put in 22 points to lead the Hawks to victory. Bryson Faines (Lincoln, Neb.) recorded a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds to secure the ranked win.

HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:

Head Men's Basketball Coach Josh Clark on the ranked win on the road:

"We clawed our way back in the game midway through the first half," Clark said. " We talked at halftime about slowing down when we catch, when we run offense and in transition. Our defense executed well tonight. Guys were communicating and we played together."

Clark on using the bye after the big victory:

"That bye came at the right time, and after a big win like this, we can use it to build," Clark said. "Proud of the way our guys stayed in the game for 40 minutes." 

UP NEXT:

The Hawks will have Wednesday off before taking on Western Iowa Tech Community College at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk.
