HAWKS TRADE LEADS WITH NO. 10 EAGLES ALL NIGHT BEFORE FALLING SHORT

NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College men's basketball team welcomed No. 10 Kirkwood Community College Saturday afternoon to the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk for an ICCAC matchup. The Eagles took the close showdown by a final score of 86-76.

The Hawks (11-11, 3-7 ICCAC) and Eagles were at an even 40 points each on the scoreboard at halftime and battled hard all day with Kirkwood. Three different Northeast players totaled over 10 points as Collin Storr (Nassau, Bahamas) put in 24, Emaniel Alexandre (Nassau, Bahamas) had 16 and Chaz Cullum (Omaha, Neb.) scored 14 of his own.

With 3:45 left in the ballgame the Eagles and Hawks were knotted at 75-75 and a free throw from Cullum gave Northeast a 76-75 advantage. After that bucket the Hawks did not score the rest of the way as Kirkwood ended the duel on a 11-0 run.

HALL OF FAME GAME:

After the game the Northeast Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2023 were inducted into the Northeast Athletics Hall of Fame at a ceremony on the campus of Northeast Community College. Members of the class included Martin Keane, Cathy (Bassett) Amoss, Melanie Bremer, Debbie (Reed) Benish, Dr. Box Helen Ann Cox and the 1986-1987 Northeast Men's Golf Team.

It won't get an easier for Northeast as the will battle No. 14 Des Moines Area Community College at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Boone, Iowa.
