LOPEZ EXCELLENT AGAIN AS HAWKS MEN’S BASKETBALL COMES UP SHORT TO NO. 8 BEARS

NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College men's basketball team was home against for a conference matchup with No. 8 Des Moines Area Community College Wednesday at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk. The Bears got the better of the Hawks in the tightly-contested affair by a final score of 74-69.

The Hawks (5-5, 0-2 ICCAC) were right there with the nationally ranked DMACC squad the whole way. The two traded the lead throughout much of the first half before the Bears pulled out to an eight-point advantage at halftime.

Northeast got to within four points of DMACC with just 2:19 remaining in the ballgame courtesy of an Emaniel Alexandre (Nassau, Bahamas) three-point shot, but that would end up being the closet that the Hawks would get to the lead.

Northeast had 36 bench points and held DMACC to just 13.3-percent shooting from beyond the arch.

Assistant men's basketball coach Junior Denis on Jared Lopez's second near double-double in as many games:

"Jared has really found his groove after being a little banged up and we knew he was going to come around at some point," Denis said.

The Hawks will participate in the Hy-Vee Classic over the weekend starting with Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College at 4:30 p.m. Friday in Ottumwa, Iowa.
