Costly turnovers plague Northeast men’s basketball

NORFOLK, Neb. – Tied at 35 at halftime, the Northeast Community College men's basketball team couldn't regain any momentum in the second half in ICCAC action on Wednesday night. The Hawks (3-15, 3-15 ICCAC) ultimately fell to Iowa Central Community College, 69-62 at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk.

Both teams had a tough time finding any rhythm in the first half. The Tritons were able to outscore the Hawks by seven points in the second half to gain control for the rest of the game.

Michael Anderson (Lincoln, Neb.) kept Iowa Central in check for much of the second half, hitting back-to-back layups down the stretch. However, the Hawks' shooting went cold until Anderson hit a 3-pointer to pull the Hawks within seven points. Justin Hiser (Grand Island, Neb.) sank a 3-pointer that cut the deficit to four points with 1:38 to play in the game. Iowa Central answered with a 3-pointer of its own as the Hawks had a tough time overcoming the seven-point lead.

Anderson tallied 20 points and seven rebounds. Hiser added 11 points and five boards.

The Hawks continue ICCAC play when they visit North Iowa Area Community College at 3 p.m. Saturday in Mason City, Iowa.
