NORFOLK, Neb. – Despite out-scoring Iowa Lakes Community College in the second half, the Northeast Community College men's basketball team was unable to mount any comeback on Friday night, falling 93-86 at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk.
It was all Iowa Lakes in the first half, shooting a blistering 49 percent from the field, while holding the Hawks to just 39 points.
The Hawks (1-2) were able to pull within three points in the second half at the 7:46-minute mark after Emmette Page (Crystal, Minn.) hit a deep 3-pointer. Both teams traded baskets down the stretch, but it was Deon'ta Tinker (Nassau, Bahamas) the hit the old-fashion three-point play to pull the Hawks within a point with 2:15 to play.
With time running out, the Hawks were forced to foul the Lakers and they ultimately hit four-straight free-throws on different occasions to keep Northeast at bay.
The Hawks battle Iowa Central Community College at 6 p.m. tomorrow in Norfolk.
