NOAKES DRIVES IN SIX AS HAWKS TROUNCE LAKERS TUESDAY

NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College baseball team hosted Iowa Lakes Community College Tuesday at Norfolk Veterans Memorial Baseball Field for a conference showdown. The Hawks took the contest by a final score of 21-5 to sweep the season series with the Lakers.

Northeast (21-16, 7-7 ICCAC) put up eight runs in the first inning and another eight runs in the second inning and led throughout their third matchup with Iowa Lakes this season. The Hawks tallied 17 hits in the ballgame as Carter Noakes (Dannebrog, Neb.) recorded six RBIs and Brady Fitzpatrick (Bellevue, Neb.) had five RBIs of his own plus a homer to help carry Northeast to the victory.

On the mound, Cole Honick (Fort Collins, Colo.) picked up the win while Eli Johnston (Wahoo, Neb.), Ben Sterbens (Omaha, Neb.) and JT Roy (Elkhorn, Neb.) all tossed one inning each in relief without allowing any hits. The Hawks will have tomorrow off before getting after it again in a single game with Iowa Western Community College at 2 p.m. Thursday in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:

Head Baseball Coach Marucs Clapp on the huge day at the plate from his group:

"Obviously we swung it well," Clapp said. "They gave us some free bases there early, but we took advantage of it and that's what you have to do. It's really easy to roll over, pop up and all of the sudden you score one or two runs there early. Scoring eight in the first two innings set the tone and it was good to get some guys work."

Clapp on the effort from the mound today:

"Cole Honick had his first start, and I think he did some good things," Clapp said. "It was one of those games where we needed to do what we needed to do, and we took care of business. Now we have to get ready for Iowa Western."

Clapp on what he wants to see Thursday against Iowa Western:

"I just want to see us do the right things," Clapp said. "I want us to have good approaches and throw strikes. If we do that, we're going to be in a lot of ballgames. We just have to do our thing."
