NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College baseball team held their home opener Sunday at Norfolk Veterans Memorial Baseball Field with two matchups against McCook Community College. The Hawks took both showdowns by final scores of 11-1 in Game 1 and 11-6 in Game 2 to sweep the four-game series.

Northeast (10-5) run-ruled McCook in just five innings in Game 1 as Carter Noakes (Dannebrog, Neb.) and Jack Borgmann (Norfolk, Neb.) both blasted homers in the contest. Preston Hastreiter (Columbus, Neb.) tossed all five innings on the mound and allowed just three hits while striking out eight batters.

Oakland Flodell (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) launched a grand slam in the third inning of Game 2 as the Hawks kept things rolling throughout the entire afternoon. Cooper Tessendorf (Columbus, Neb.) picked up the victory as the freshman didn't allow a hit through three innings of work. Northeast has now won seven-straight games as they will hit the road for two more this week.

    STAT SHEET GAME 1:

    Carter Noakes (Dannebrog, Neb.): 2-2, HR, 2 R, 4 RBI, 2 BB

    Cooper Tessendorf (W) (Columbus, Neb.): 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 K

    HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:

Head Baseball Coach Marcus Clapp on the sweep at home Sunday:

"I thought all weekend we were pretty offensive," Clapp said. "We were pretty offensive again today. We just had a bad inning there where we gave up a five-spot. We have to be a little bit better in the bullpen and continue to work, but overall, you have to be happy about a four-game sweep."

Clapp on looking ahead to Western Nebraska this week:

"Hoping we play," Clapp said. "Right now, that's probably the one thing that is up in the air with potential weather. We'll see if we can play, but we need to compete so that we can keep getting better. We'll get back at it tomorrow and prepare for this week."

    UP NEXT:

The Hawks will head to Western Nebraska Community College for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Thursday in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Stay tuned to social media and northeasthawks.com for any potential weather-related updates.
