CORK DEALS AS HAWKS DROP TWO ON OPENING DAY AGAINST JETS

ENID, Okla. – The Northeast Community College baseball team began their season Friday with a doubleheader against Northern Oklahoma College-Enid in Enid, Oklahoma. The Hawks spilt the two games, dropping Game 1 by a final score of 2-1 before falling to the Jets 11-10 in Game 2.

Northeast (0-2) began the day with a fantastic effort from starting pitcher Braden Cork (Omaha, Neb.) as the sophomore tossed four innings and didn't allow a hit or a run while striking out eight batters. Both teams were held to three hits each as offense was at a premium. The Hawks got on the board for the first time in 2025 when Edgar Hernandez (Glenwood Springs, Colo.) reached on an error to score Jack Borgmann (Norfolk, Neb.), but NOC-Enid went on to claim victory in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Game 2 had much more offense in the contest as the Hawks put four runs on the board in both the first and second innings. A trio of Northeast freshmen were a huge part of the run output as Hernandez had three RBIs while Hayden Parrish (Omaha, Neb.) and Brady Fitzpatrick (Bellevue, Neb.) each had two RBIs of their own in just their second showdown of their young careers in a Hawks uniform. Northeast tied up the matchup in the top of the seventh inning before the Jets earned their second win of the day, again in walk-off fashion.

HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:

Head Baseball Coach Marcus Clapp on how the first doubleheader of the season played out:

"Tough to get walked off twice for sure, but I thought we did some good things today," Clapp said. "We can't have so many free passes from the mound. I think we walked seven combined in both games in the first inning. We have to pound the zone more consistently. I thought offensively we were better in game in terms of being more aggressive and hunting fastballs."

Clapp on the key to getting in the win column tomorrow:

"We just need to clean up some things, but overall, it wasn't a bad first day," Clapp said. "We have an opportunity to take two tomorrow."

The Hawks will finish their series with the Jets in another doubleheader at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. in Enid, Oklahoma.
