FANTASTIC BASE RUNNING FOR NO. 20 HAWKS HELPS COMPLETE SWEEP OF SPARTANS

NORFOLK, Neb. – The No. 20 Northeast Community College baseball team finished their three-game series with Southwestern Community College Sunday at Norfolk Veterans Memorial Baseball Field in Norfolk. The Hawks took the contest by a final score of 10-4 to complete the sweep of the Spartans.

Northeast (31-17, 18-7 ICCAC) was aggressive early and often on the bases as Cade Grevengoed (West Des Moines, Iowa) twice, Trenton Barry (Wahoo, Neb.) twice, Carter Noakes (Dannebrog, Neb.) and Grayson Headrick (Littleton, Colo.) all stole bases throughout the afternoon. Grevengoed stuffed the box score all day as he added a hit, two runs, two RBIs and two walks to his two stolen bags. Starting pitcher Aidan Brainard (Littleton, Colo.) went six innings on the mound and struck out 10 batters while Braden Cork (Omaha, Neb.) finished the matchup with three innings of work, allowing just one hit and no runs.

HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:

Head Baseball Coach Marcus Clapp on the work his team did on the base paths this weekend:

"Being aggressive on the bases and doing little things right is a big part of the game, especially for us and what we do," Clapp said. "When we lock in and are getting good reads and good jumps, we are going to be aggressive. I think we've seen all year that I'm going to get some guys thrown out from time to time, but we are also going to score on some plays that we shouldn't. I think we are doing a good job on the bases, and we just have to keep getting after it aggressively."

Clapp on the upcoming duel with No. 7 Iowa Central that will impact seeding for the upcoming conference tournament:

"We control our own destiny with a couple of weeks to go here," Clapp said. "We'll take it one game at a time, but I think they know what Wednesday is about. We'll get back after it the next couple of days and prepare for Wednesday."

The Hawks will head out on the road for a ranked showdown with No. 7 Iowa Central Community College at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
