WORTMAN HOMERS IN NO. 20 HAWKS LOSS THURSDAY

IOWA FALLS, Iowa – The No. 20 Northeast Community College baseball team was out on the road again Thursday for a matchup with Ellsworth Community College. The Hawks dropped the contest by a final score of 8-7.

Northeast (28-17, 15-7 ICCAC) had made it a point this year to score early, and that was again the case against the Panthers as Kale Jensen (Central City, Neb.) brought in Carter Noakes (Dannebrog, Neb.) in the first inning. Rusty Wortman (Gretna, Neb.) blasted his third home run of the season in the third frame to extend the Hawks lead to 3-0. Ellsworth scored seven runs to jump ahead 7-3 before Jack Borgmann (Norfolk Neb.) tied up the showdown in the top of the seventh inning. The Panthers went on to score a run in the eighth frame to pull ahead for good as Northeast will head home for a weekend series with Southwestern Community College.

HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:

Head Baseball Coach Marcus Clapp on the battle with Ellsworth:

"When you make four errors and give up nine free bases, you are not going to win very often," Clapp said. "I thought we were flat and just going through the motions."

Clapp on getting ready for a home series this weekend:

"We'll practice tomorrow and hopefully we will pay attention to detail before this weekend," Clapp said.

The Hawks will be back at home for a doubleheader with Southwestern Community College beginning at 2 p.m. at Norfolk Veterans Memorial Baseball Field in Norfolk.
