JENSEN AND MISZUK RALLY NO. 20 NORTHEAST PAST DMACC

BOONE, Iowa – The No. 20 Northeast Community College baseball team traveled to Boone, Iowa Wednesday for a conference duel with Des Moines Area Community College. The Hawks took the showdown by a final score of 5-4 to claim the season series over the Bears.

Northeast (28-16, 15-6 ICCAC) found themselves placed in the NJCAA DII Baseball Rankings for the first time this year on Monday and backed up that honor by putting together an all-around performance on the road. Brice Wallar (Papillion, Neb.) got things going in the first inning with a line drive to center field to score leadoff man Carter Noakes (Dannebrog, Neb.). Cade Grevengoed (West Des Moines, Iowa) doubled in the second inning to score Grayson Headrick (Littleton, Colo.), but the bats would cool off for Northeast through the middle part of the ballgame.

Nick Vilims (Evergreen, Colo.) started for the Hawks and struck out seven batters from the Bears as DMACC rallied to tie the contest in the seventh inning. Nick Miszuk (Parker, Colo.) stepped in and went the final three innings on the mound while allowing just four hits and zero earned runs. Kale Jensen (Central City, Neb.) made good use of the efforts on the mound as he singled in the top of the eighth inning to score Grevengoed and break the tie. Miszuk finished off the Bears in the bottom of the ninth frame as Northeast improved to 2-1 over the Bears this season.

Head Baseball Coach Marcus Clapp on how the matchup played out:

"We started well and then I felt we let off the gas for about five innings," Clapp said. "Left too many guys on base when we had a chance to extend the lead. We scored late when we needed."

Clapp on the performance of his pitchers today and taking the series from DMACC:

"I thought both Nick Vilims and Nick Miszuk threw well," Clapp said. "It was good to see Miszuk get back in there and shut them down!" Clapp said. "Good to win on the road and win the series!"

The Hawks will again battle on the road against Ellsworth Community College at 3 p.m. tomorrow in Iowa Falls, Iowa.
