CHANUTE, Kan. – The Northeast Community College baseball team finished their series with Neosho County Community College in Chanute, Kansas Monday in a doubleheader. The Panthers took Game 1 of the day by a final score of 6-3 before the Hawks rallied to take Game 2 by a final score of 11-9.

Northeast (2-6) got on the board first after Grayson Headrick (Littleton, Colo.) singled to bring in Rusty Wortman (Gretna, Neb.) and went up 2-0 on a Cade Grevengoed (West Des Moines, Iowa) homer to center field in the third inning. The Hawks only were able to muster one additional run in the final four frames compared to the six from Neosho County despite a strong start from Gabe Rodriguez (Thornton, Colo.).

Game 2 saw the Northeast bats come alive as their 11 runs were their second-highest total to this point of the young season. Kale Jensen (Central City, Neb.) homered in the top of the fifth inning and Jack Borgmann (Norfolk, Neb.) tallied two RBIs as the Hawks were able to take a game in the series with another trip to Kansas on the horizon next weekend.

    STAT SHEET GAME 1:

Cade Grevengoed (West Des Moines, Iowa): 2-4, HR, R, RBI

Kale Jensen (Central City, Neb.): 2-2, R, 2 BB

Grayson Headrick (Littleton, Colo.): 1-3, RBI

    STAT SHEET GAME 2:

Kale Jensen (Central City, Colo.): 2-4, HR, R, 2 RBI

    Jack Borgmann (Norfolk, Neb.): 2-4, 2B, R, 2 RBI

Derek Woolwine (Boulder, Colo.): 2-4, 2B, R, RBI

    HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:

Head Baseball Coach Marcus Clapp on how he would access the day and the weekend:

"We need to be a better baseball team at all aspects," Clapp said. "We need to be better fundamentally and understand what our jobs are. We got beat in Game 1 with three home runs. Gabe Rodriguez threw really well, but we couldn't do enough offensively. I thought we fought in Game 2 and were able to get a win."

Clapp on the focus before hitting the road again this weekend:

"We will just keep working on the fundamentals and get ready for this weekend," Clapp said.

    UP NEXT:

The Hawks will take on Luna Community College at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Dodge City, Kansas.
