HISTORIC HAWKS SEASON COMES TO A CLOSE

BURLINGTON, Iowa – The Northeast Community College baseball team competed in Game 7 of the Region 11 Tournament Saturday in Burlington, Iowa against Kirkwood Community College. The Hawks fell to the Eagles by a final score of 12-5 to end their season.

Northeast (39-20, 21-12 ICCAC) entered the ballgame as winners of the previous two playoff contests in consecutive days and facing yet another win-or-go-home matchup. The Hawks fell behind 5-0 early but again did not go down without a fight as they scored one run in the third inning and three in the sixth to put themselves right back in contention. The game entered the eighth frame with Kirkwood ahead 7-5 before they added five runs in their half of the inning to bring the 2023 Northeast campaign to an end.

HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:

Head baseball coach Marcus Clapp on his team's elimination:

"I thought they played hard," Clapp said. "We battled all weekend, but we had just too many little miscues. It's so tough in this tournament format to come back through when you lose Game 1."

Clapp on what he will remember about this group:

"This team won 39 games this season, which ties the school record," Clapp said. "They have so many things to be proud of. This sophomore class won 78 games in two years. That is a really special group right there. I am so proud of this team and all they accomplished not only on the field but the way that they represented this school and program with hard work and resilience off the field. Thank you, sophomores!"
