NORTHEAST COMEBACK NOT ENOUGH ON WINDY SUNDAY

NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College baseball team finished their series with No. 7 Southeastern Community College Sunday at Norfolk Veterans Memorial Baseball Field in Norfolk. The Blackhawks got the better of the Hawks by a final score of 11-10.

Northeast (35-15, 19-9 ICCAC) and Southeastern both had 13 hits on the afternoon through windy conditions as only the third and eighth innings went without runs. Cade Grevengoed (West Des Moines, Iowa) and Derek Woolwine (Boulder, Colo.) both launched homers over the right-field wall in the showdown. The Hawks were behind as much as 11-4 in the seventh frame but had eight hitters record a knock in the contest and put together an impressive rally that ultimately wasn't quite enough.

HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:

Head baseball coach Marcus Clapp on still leaving the weekend with a series victory:

"Like all year, you have to turn the page in this league," Clapp said. "You can't worry about a loss or a win because the next team you face is just as good. We'll get back to work this week. We started off a little rough today. I didn't think we pitched real well today compared to yesterday. Our bats were quiet there until the last two or three innings. It took us awhile to get going, but we gave it a shot at the end."

Clapp on trying to peak as the end of the regular season nears:

"I feel like we have played one really good game and then maybe we don't play a good game," Clapp said. "Then we play two really good games. In the tournament, you can't do that. You have to play three, four, five or six solid games in a row. With two games against Iowa Central and three against Iowa Western coming up, we have to play five really good games. We might not win them all, but I just want to see us play clean. We just have to tighten some stuff up, but I like where we are at right now."

Northeast will hit the road for the final time during the regular season for a doubleheader with Iowa Central Community College starting at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
