NORTHEAST SUFFERS TOUGH LOSS LATE MONDAY

NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College baseball team was back at Norfolk Veterans Memorial Baseball Field in Norfolk Monday to wrap up their three-game set with Indian Hills Community College. The Warriors topped the Hawks by a final score of 3-2 to take the series victory.

Northeast (27-12, 11-6 ICCAC) gave the ball to sophomore Clay Beaumont (Tekamah, Neb.) and he put in a fantastic effort on the mound as he went six and one-third innings, allowed no earned runs and struck out two batters. The matchup was a pitcher's duel throughout the day as the Hawks put the first run of the showdown on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning. Harrison Taubert (Casper, Wyo.) grounded into a fielder's choice as Taylor Gill (Orem, Utah) screamed down the third-base line to get the scoring going.

Gill had a sacrifice of his own later as he flew out to left field in a play that scored Grayson Headrick (Littleton, Colo.). Gage Ingram (LaVista, Neb.) didn't allow any earned runs during his relief outing but the Warriors plated two runners in the top of the ninth inning to squeak out the victory.

HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:

Head baseball coach Marcus Clapp's overall thoughts on the afternoon:

"Clay (Beaumont) threw the ball really good," Clapp said. "Gage (Ingram) threw the ball well. We pitched as good as we have pitched all year. I think that's 10 errors in two days. That's unacceptable. We struck out 24 times yesterday and only had three hits today. It's not where we need to be right now. We'll go after it tomorrow."

Clapp on his message to his group with a big week ahead:

"You can only say so much," Clapp said. "At some point we have to do it. You aren't going to win many games making five errors in a 3-2 game. We have to keep going after it."

Northeast has two more contests on the horizon as they will travel to Iowa Lakes Community College for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. tomorrow in Estherville, Iowa.
