NO. 19 HAWKS STRUGGLE TO GET GOING MONDAY

NORFOLK, Neb. – The No. 19 Northeast Community College baseball team welcomed McCook Community College to Norfolk Veterans Memorial Baseball Field in Norfolk Monday. The Indians came out on top in the showdown by a final score of 9-5

The Hawks (26-9, 10-3 ICCAC) found themselves ranked in the latest NJCAA DII Baseball Rankings a few minutes before Aidan Brainard (Littleton, Colo.) threw the first pitch of the ballgame. Cade Grevengoed (West Des Moines, Iowa) put the Hawks on top early with a single that scored Jackson Horn (Papillion, Neb.) in the bottom of the second inning. Grevengoed would later homer in the bottom of the sixth inning, but three runs in each of the third, fifth and seventh innings from McCook were too much to overcome.

HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:

Head baseball coach Marcus Clapp on what went wrong today:

"I thought overall we didn't really show up," Clapp said. "It was an absolutely gorgeous day. The best day we've played in. I felt like we came out and were just kind of going through the motions. Made a couple of errors. Had some chances to do things. It just wasn't a great overall day."

Clapp on how his squad can bounce back Wednesday:

"If we can just be consistent with what we are doing," Clapp said. "We scored double-digit runs in four-straight games and then we come out and act like we haven't hit for two weeks. I know hitting is not easy, but if we have an approach and do what we are capable of doing, we shouldn't have to worry about that."
