NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College baseball team was back at Norfolk Veterans Memorial Baseball Field in Norfolk Saturday for the third showdown in their series with Marshalltown Community College. The Tigers came out on top in the ballgame by a final score of 5-2.

Northeast (19-7, 3-2 ICCAC) was given a solid starting performance on the mound from Christian Carew (Parker, Colo.) as the righty went five innings, allowed just three hits and struck out seven batters. Rusty Wortman (Gretna, Neb.) came through to break up the 0-0 score in the bottom of the fifth inning with a sacrifice fly that plated Taylor Gill (Orem, Utah). The Hawks entered the ninth inning with a 2-1 advantage on the scoreboard but surrendered four runs in the top of the frame as the Tigers triumphed in the third game of the series.

    STAT SHEET:

Rusty Wortman (Gretna, Neb.): 2-4, RBI

Darius Hagen (Omaha, Neb.): 1-4, RBI

    Christian Carew (Parker, Colo.): 5 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 7 K

    HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:

Northeast head coach Marcus Clapp on the start from Christian Carew:

"Christian gave us a chance to win but needed to cut down on pitches per inning," Clapp said.

Clapp on what his group can learn from this loss:

"We have to start paying attention to detail and start understanding we have to take our work in practice into a game," Clapp said. "We can't change how we do things because it's a game."

    UP NEXT:

Northeast will load up and head to Iowa Lakes Community College for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Estherville, Iowa.
