FULLERTON, MANWARREN AND FOGELSTROM EXTEND SEASON FOR NORTHEAST

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Northeast Community College baseball team traveled to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to compete in the 2022 ICCAC Division II Region XI Baseball Tournament Thursday. The Hawks dropped their first game of the tournament against Des Moines Area Community College by a final score of 8-2 but rallied back to defeat Iowa Central Community College in an elimination game by a final score of 6-3.

The Hawks (39-18, 18-15 ICCAC) were only able to score two runs in their first game of the day as a Houston Fogelstrom (Omaha, Neb.) homer scored Samuel Manwarren (Overland Park, Kan.). The Bears scored three runs in the first inning, two runs in the third and three more runs in the eighth to send the Hawks to a win-or-go-home game against Iowa Central.

The Hawks and Tritons battled hard and were even on the scoreboard entering the bottom of the eighth inning before the Northeast bats delivered in a huge spot. Maxim Fullerton (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) doubled to bring in one, Manwarren doubled to bring in Fullerton and then Fogelstrom singled to bring in Manwarren. Those three runs were enough for the Hawks to take the victory and fend off elimination.

Head baseball coach Marcus Clapp's overall thoughts on how the two games played out:

"Well, Game 1 I thought we were pretty tight," Clapp said. "I thought the guys showed resilience and good effort in that second game. We were able to pull away in the eighth with some big hits!"

UP NEXT
