NO. 15 HAWKS DOWN NO. 11 IOWA CENTRAL BEHIND HUGE EIGHTH-INNING RALLY

NORFOLK, Neb. – The No. 15 Northeast Community College baseball team was back on the road Thursday to face off with ICCAC rival No. 11 Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, Iowa. The Hawks were able to pull away late in the matchup and secure a huge win by a final score of 20-10. 

The Hawks (34-9, 14-7 ICCAC) took what looked to be a commanding lead early as they were ahead of the Tritons 6-0 through two innings and a half. The Tritons would rally back to put six runs of their own on the board in the third inning. Entering the eighth inning the Hawks trailed by just one run with the score sitting at 8-7, but the Hawks bats weren't done yet. 

Maxim Fullerton (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) singled to bring in two runs, Cooper Whitt (Knoxville, Tenn.) doubled to bring in another, Maximo De Leon (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) singled to score Whitt and in total the Hawks pushed eight runs across in the eighth inning. Five more Hawks runs were added in the ninth and the Hawks were able take another crucial ICCAC victory.

HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH  

Head baseball coach Marcus Clapp's overall thoughts on today's games: 

"We jumped out early and really liked our approach, but as soon as they came back I thought we got away from it for a couple of innings," Clapp said. "We talked about staying simple and we got a couple of big hits and then we were able to pull away!" 

How much confidence does it give Clapp to see hitters one through nine in his lineup having success? 

"We have some guys up and down the lineup swinging it well and they need to continue to stick with the approach," Clapp said. 

Clapp's early thoughts on facing Indian Hills Community College next: 

"I know Indian Hills can really pitch it, so again we need to stay the course and be ready for another three-game battle," Clapp said. 

UP NEXT  

The Hawks will return home next for a Sunday/Monday series against Indian Hills Community College at home. A doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday at Norfolk Veterans Memorial Baseball Field in Norfolk.
