OFFENSIVE EXPLOSION LIFTS NO. 9 NORTHEAST TO SERIES WIN OVER MARSHALLTOWN

NORFOLK, Neb. – The No. 9 Northeast Community College baseball team clinched another ICCAC series win Sunday at Norfolk Veterans Memorial Baseball Field in Norfolk as they came out on top by a final score of 18-15 over Marshalltown Community College.

The Hawks (27-4, 7-2 ICCAC) brought their bats to the park as they tallied eight doubles and four home runs on the day. Taylor Gill (Orem, Utah) had three of those doubles himself and Maximo De Leon (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) had two more of his own. Samuel Manwarren (Overland Park, Kan.), Houston Fogelstrom (Omaha, Neb.) and Parker Dorrance (Arvada, Colo.) each also added doubles. Manwarren and Fogelstrom blasted homers as well, as did Maxim Fullerton (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) and Harrison Taubert (Casper, Wyo.).

The Tigers produced plenty of offense on the day, but the Hawks were able to do just enough to secure the 18-15 victory.

HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:

Head baseball coach Marcus Clapp's overall thoughts on how his team has thrived at the plate offensively but struggled on the mound as of late:

"It's something that we keep talking about," Clapp said. "You can only talk so much. At some point people have to step up and do. We keep relying on our offense to have to score 18 runs to win a ballgame, and at some point, it has to stop. All you can do is go back and tweak things and work at things."

Clapp's thoughts on having two mid-week games this week with Ellsworth and McCook:

"Well, again, we have to rely on our bullpen," Clapp said. "Our bullpen has to step up. They are going to get opportunities again and they have to be ready to take their opportunity and run with it."

UP NEXT:

The Hawks will travel to Ellsworth Community College Wednesday before returning home Thursday to battle with McCook Community College. The Wednesday road game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. in Iowa Falls, Iowa and the Thursday home game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. at Norfolk Veterans Memorial Baseball Field in Norfolk.
