Hawks fall to Moberly Area CC in District K championship

"We had three major things that contributed to the deficit at halftime," said Matt Svehla, Hawks coach. "We shot poorly, we gave up too many baseline drives in our zone and we didn't keep them off the offensive boards."

Svehla said Northeast corrected many of their issues in the second half and got back into the game.

"To get the game cut to six points with four minutes to play was a tribute to our girls. They showed great fight and determination. Down the stretch, we just couldn't get it any closer and ended up having to foul them in the final minutes. This was a tough loss, but we battled to the end."

The Hawks had a 36-percent field goal percentage to the Greyhounds' 39-percent. Mykala Baylor tallied 14 points and four rebounds. Lauren Hunstad had 10 points and three steals; Jerrica Neal, eight points, three rebounds and two assists; Irene Sanz, seven points, six rebounds and five assists.

Moberly Area (32-0) is currently ranked #4 in the NJCAA Division I poll. They automatically advance to the NJCAA Women's Division I National Championship later this month in Lubbock, TX

Northeast's record is 25-5.
